I was born and raised in Western New York. After graduating from St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in 1993 I attended the University of Notre Dame. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting in 1997.
After graduation I came back to the Buffalo area and worked for the largest regional public accounting firm in Western New York. I passed all four parts of the CPA Exam on my first attempt, and spent twelve years in public accounting. My experience included multiple industry groups such as professional services (legal, engineering, etc), manufacturing, auto, SEC, and employee benefit plan audits. I worked on clients with annual revenues ranging from $1 million to $600 million.
In 2009 I left public accounting to take on the role of CFO for two affiliated HVAC companies, one a contractor and one a distributor. My nine years as CFO allowed me to gain a wealth of experience handling all of the important facets of making a business successful.
My oversight of the financial reporting process included monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, percentage of completion revenue recognition, handling the year-end audit and tax returns for each company, and personal tax planning for the owner. In addition I was responsible for internal payroll, employee benefits, corporate insurance, workers compensation, fleet management, OSHA reporting and was the administrator for the 401k Profit Sharing Plan.
When the owners of the companies decided it was time to execute their exit strategy, I played a key role in the negotiation and due diligence leading to the eventual sale to a large international buyer.
In January 2018 I ventured out on my own to perform the services described above. I have assisted numerous clients over the past six plus years with varying levels of need. Some clients have utilized me as an on-site CFO to run the finance department for as many as three days a week during our engagement. Other clients have monthly arrangements that involve me being on-site a couple days a month, with a focus on month-end closing assistance and financial reporting. My clients have spanned multiple industries. I have also assisted in six merger and acquisition transactions along the way.
